毀滅性(Devastating)

美國的救市方案終於獲得國會通過。較早時，共和民主兩黨的多位講者在投票前說，否決救市方案可能對本來已經放緩的經濟有毀滅性的後果。Speaker after speaker from both parti es said before the vote that rejecting the bailout could have devastating consequences for an already slowing economy。

香港樂施會會長最近指出，天氣轉變對倚賴農業的較貧窮地區造成更頻密和毀滅性的天災。Climate change has resulted in more frequent and devastating natural disasters in poorer regions which depend on agriculture。

Devastating是「毀滅性、破壞性極大」的意思。它是形容詞，其他例子：Oil spills are having a devastating effect on coral reefs in the ocean是「海上溢油對海洋?的珊瑚礁有毀滅性的影響」，It will be a devastating blow to the local community if the factory closes是「如果這家工廠倒閉，將給當地居民以毀滅性的打擊」。
