物質 (Material)

物質 (Material)


我跟同學閒聊時，常常問他們將來找到工作，有固定的收入後，會怎樣處理金錢。他們的答案多是外出旅遊、品嚐美食、買車子、買房子、買名牌貨、買高科技產品、總之是買東西。那時候我會囑咐他們不應對物質的享受考慮得太多了：You should not think too much of material comforts。這個社會使人們變得貪婪和追求物質享樂，This society has made people greedy and materialistic。

上文的 Material 是形容詞，是「物質的」意思，與 Spiritual「精神的」相反。Materialistic 是「注重物質、追求物質享樂」的意思。其他例子：People seemed to become much more materialistic during the 1980's 是「人們在80年代變得更注重物質了」，In the 1980's , Britain was a very materialistic society 是「在80年代，英國是一個非常追求物質享樂的社會」。
